Before getting started, we must remember that our child is young. Overloading him with words and numbers or forcing him to learn at an early age can cause him to become discouraged or grow to resent learning. In the long run, it may also affect him psychologically. We must remember, leaning should be an enjoyable process.
We must realize, our child is different from his peers and siblings. The way he learns best depends on many factors, including learning style; either he preferred to read, draw or listen to explanations. Knowing our child will help us to choose the learning activities and methods that suit him best.
To ensure our child to love learning, he needs to be motivated. These are few tips how to motivate our child, e.g.:-
Don’t lose your temper or criticize him
If he struggling in his learning process, we should empathize, offer support and understanding. It may takes time and challenging our patience but really worth it. And never forget the complements each time he manage to complete his task. It also help to develop his confident and become motivated.
My experience: Previously, iyzzat always refused to brush his teeth. Either in the morning or in a night time. But after continuously persuade him by saying brushing make his teeth smells good, and complements him every time he brush his teeth, now he like to brush and always reminds me every time went he took his shower.
Give him lots of praise
Not only when he succeeds, but when he tries. This will encourage him to learn more and do better.
My experience: Every day is a learning process for my son. Everyday I can hear his using new word, developing new sentence. Yesterday my son asked my permission to sit on a chair. So cute and adorable. :)
Speak positively about your own learning experiences
You may explain how the experiences helped you to become the person you are today.
My experience: To inspired and encourage him to learn, every time we past the school area in my neighborhood, I told him when I was younger, I went to school. Then I ask him either he want to go to school? And I told him that he need to learn ABC or counting 123, so later he can study at school and when he big enough, he can go to work, just like mama and papa.
Try to relate to his interests
If your child likes vehicles or any type of transportation like my son, he’d probably like to read or see pictures of it. You can incorporate stories or lessons around his interests.
My experience: Instead of showing and teaching my son a picture of Postman, I create a story if it. What the postman do, what is he wearing and ride. Now, every time we went back home after fetching him from the babysitter's house, he will go straight to the mailbox and said, "rat man, rat man".. (@surat postman) :D
Be a good role model
Show your child on a daily basis what a great delight you take in undergo daily routine or learning new things.
My experience: Iyzzat love to play and move around every time I feed him. By showing a good example, I always ask him to properly sit like papa and mama does while eating. He easily understand but he also love to watch TV while eating, just like mama too. ;p
Hopefully by encouraging and motivating them, our child will love to learn and become a motivated child. Of course, every parent prays and wishes that our child will develop to the best of his capabilities.
